Labor Day weekend

Why is it that we especially as women or mothers are so hard on ourselves?

This past weekend my friend or shall we just say cousin invited our family to her cabin.  Within 2 hours we had gotten all packed up and into our cozy little van & headed up to the mountains.  This was a big deal for us because we had never travelled anywhere except to Grandma's house with all kids in tow.  To be honest the thought of it has just plain scared us.  Well for some reason we thought this little trip was a brilliant idea (and it was) but after the first nights sleep I seriously questioned my brain power.  Stacey & husband slept in one queen bed with their 2 kids & we slept in the other room with 3 portable cribs and 2 beds.  It was pretty cozy to say the least.

The next morning we ended up going on an outing to go fishing.  The only problem was it was a steep 10 minute hike to get down to the water's edge.  Seriously not a conducive place for a family with little kids who have a hard time hiking & a hard time understanding English (it seems).  Anyway it was quite an adventure to keep everyone out of the water & to stop throwing rocks.  Waylon & I ended up getting the boys back to the car a tid bit earlier than the rest of the crew if you know what I mean.  Needless to say the kids had a great time collecting all sorts of dirt & mess.  They loved every moment....it was so worth the work & the sleepless nights.

As we were driving home I was somehow a little hard on myself for not taking more pictures.  I mean I was really disappointed with myself.  That is when I decided that no way am I going to focus on what I didn't do but what I did do.  Taking this trip was a huge feat & I shouldn't in one sense of the word be disappointed with myself.  Plus I gained some strong arm muscles from hiking while holding lots of loot & kids so I'd say we'd done good.

  1. You may not have gotten a lot of pictures, but the ones that you did get tell the story quite nicely...especially the one of Waylon guarding all of the boys sitting on the log or rock. cute pictures, cute kids!!
